GUILTY BY ASSOCIATION "The Book"

THE FULL STORY

GUILTY BY ASSOCIATION

By Damion "Damizza" Young & J. Marshall Craig

With Eddie Gurrola

One of the music and radio industry's top producers and executives for the last 15 years, Damion Young is lifting the veil on what went on behind the scenes in the burgeoning, ongoing and, at times, recovering careers of just about every major recording star in his explosive new memoir, "Guilty By Association."

Fans will be enthrawed with Damizza's first-hand account of watching Eminem record "Hi My Name Is …" in Dr. Dre's home studio — and minutes later Dre taking Damizza aside, enlisting his friend's advice on "how to break the white boy."

Dre wasn't the only one tapping Damizza for his expertise: The young producer and radio wunderkind was hired by L.A.'s fledgling Power 106 hip-hop station to turn it into what became, during his tenure, arguablythe world's most influential music station.

In "Guilty By Association" readers will be treated to the behind-the-scenes stories of some of Mariah Carey's biggest hits — and her incredible comeback after the disastrous "Glitter" fiasco, orchestrated through her triumphant post-9/11 Super Bowl performance. And for the first time anywhere, Damizza finally goes public with the ups and down of the intense four-year personal relationship they shared and worked diligently to disguise from the world's press.

From Al Gore's insightful assessment of "Glitter" to Billy Bob Thorton's attempt to record an album under Damizza's direction, the landmark reunion of Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre on "Chronic 2001" and a nearly endless list of every imaginable celebrity who sought Damizza's help, "Guilty By Association" is a who's who diary of how our world of popular music has evolved, all told by one of the few people who was standing in the room at nearly every moment.

But it's also more than a recollection of anecdotal remembrances: Damizza spends considerable time discussing the hows and whys of the songs that have topped the charts for more than a decade came to fruition, from the writing and recording to the sometimes uncomfortable and combative machinations of the record, radio and promotionalindustries and the egos that propel them.

While entire chapters are dedicated to Dre, Snoop, Mariah, Warren G., Eminem, Ludacris and Jay-Z, readers will be hard pressed to come up with a famous name that doesnotplay at least a passing role in "Guilty By Association." Axl Rose, Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Quincy Jones, Paris Hilton, Prince, Tobey McGuire, Tony Bennett, Hulk Hogan, Michael and Janet Jackson, Tommy Lee & Pamela Anderson, David Lee Roth, Harry Belafonte, Puffy, Jermaine Dupri, Nas, The Game, 50 Cent, Suge Knight, Tupac, Biggie … the list literally goes on for pages … a manic trip that finally pulls over at the side of the road for a little "breather" at the Betty Ford Center.

"It's been — it continues to be — a mindblowing journey," Damizza says. "I really felt fans deserved to hear some of my first-hand accounts of how some of their favorite records came to be. Besides, it's been a while since my mailbox has been filled with cease-and-desist orders."

J. Marshall Craig is the co-writer of Animals lead singer Eric Burdon's internationally acclaimed memoir Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, Rolling Stones keyboardist Chuck Leavell's Between Rock and a Home Place, and more than a half dozen other published works.

MARIAH GETTING HER SUE ON!

Do you guys remember music producer Damion "Damizza" Young? I sure do! A ways back he was making big time power moves in the rap game as a producers and eventually executive. Well, dude has a new book coming out called "Guilty By Association." From what I know to be actual and factual, Mariah Carey, by way of her lawyer, is attempting to block the release of the book with a cease and desist notice! Apparently, Damizza has done some work as a producer for Mariah and in the book, he plans to talk about it. I THINK Mariah has contractual provisions preventing anybody that works with her to talk about her personally or even professionally. That rules out a book by Nick Cannon, eh?

This is what I think may have prompted Mariah's people to fire that letter off:

While entire chapters are dedicated to Dre, Snoop, Mariah, Warren G., Eminem, Ludacris and Jay-Z, readers will be hard pressed to come up with a famous name that does not play at least a passing role in "Guilty By Association." Axl Rose, Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Quincy Jones, Paris Hilton, Prince, Tobey McGuire, Tony Bennett, Hulk Hogan, Michael and Janet Jackson, Tommy Lee & Pamela Anderson, David Lee Roth, Harry Belafonte, Puffy, Jermaine Dupri, Nas, The Game, 50 Cent, Suge Knight, Tupac, Biggie … the list literally goes on for pages … a manic trip that finally pulls over at the side of the road for a little "breather" at the Betty Ford Center.

Here is Damizza, Mariah and Al Gore!

What? "No- Welcome Back??"

I don't think my phone has rang this much in 5 years.. It's all so funny. I think everybody in the industry called to ask around if they are mentioned in the book.. AND, for some strange reason they all seem to have a "Guilty conscience". Speaking of Eminem, I just finished the chapter on his elvis-ness and I just have 1 more chapter to go- then I'm done. I'll keep you updated on all the goings on.. With everybody mad at me I'm starting to feel like the old Damion Young again.. hahah

J. Marshall Craig is back from vacation and we will now put the finishing touches on it to have it out by X-Mas or 1st Qtr.

So far its been interesting to watch the press turn it into a "tell-All" (at first) on Dr. Dre.. Now, its Mariah thinking it's all about her..

What about the chapter on the rise and fall of POWER 106??

Whoops.. I may have said too much.. hahahaha

Goodmorning!

P.s. Check out the west-coast Grind Radio Show.. This next week Glasses Malone is gona be on there..

SUPPORT WEST-COAST MUSIC!

P.S. I would like to thank Mariah & Sonya (her Lawyer) for starting the Press for the book off with a bang!!

I think everybody need to read the press release again.
